Air pruning roots is an effective way to promote root health in potted plants. For a fibrous and vigorous root system and the prevention of pot bound or root bound plants use air root pruning containers. 

How it works, the inherent pyramidal shape of the container side leads each root towards provided air hole. As the root meets air, it dehydrates the root tip and subsequently self-prunes which stimulates root branching and growth further up the root system. This process recurs until there is a healthy quantity of fibrous roots. The mass of air holes on the side and the bottom of the container provides excellent drainage and aeration of the growing medium ensuring maximum nutritional uptake by the fibrous root system. 

The scientists at Kew Gardens in the UK insist on growing all their plants with Air root pruning containers and we have followed suit with our plants at Rietkol Farms.
